Crochet & Knitting from the Heart
Survey any group of knitters and crocheters, and you will find that most of them create projects to give to others, including their favorite causes and charities. Personally, we have found these creative people to be the most caring group that we have ever met. If you enjoy creating projects for others, we have compiled an extensive list of national organizations who accept donations. We hope you will visit their web sites to learn about them and will consider making a project or two to donate.

Tips for Donating Locally
Contact your local nursing home, hospice or shelter to see what items they need.
Check out our free Learn to Knit and Learn to Crochet lessons and brush up your skills or learn something new.

Contact local hospitals and ask for the volunteer coordinator, who will direct you in the types of donated items they accept. Hospitals usually have stringent guidelines about the washability of projects and the type of yarn used.
Ask your friends and coworkers if they know of organizations that need handmade items.
If you don’t have time to make projects, consider providing materials. Many organizations accept yarn, needles and hooks to distribute to volunteers.

We would love you to contribute to our Creative Giving section. If you know of a national organization that you would like to see included on this list, please contact us. We will contact you to get further information.

For more information on local groups working on charity projects, please visit the Charities Forum of our Red Heart Community. You will be able to search for groups in your area, as well as for groups making certain types of projects.
